I picked up a drain pan that has a storage bottle built in, so I don't have to transfer the used oil from a pan to a bottle for recycle. The only problem is that it won't quite fit under the bike, so I'll have to drain the oil with the bike upright on a lift. The question is how much additional oil will drain out when the bike is lowered to the kickstand? I'm thinking just a little bit that I can catch with a small bowl. Thanks.

I cut most of the side out of a gallon jug like an antifreeze jug etc. or water jug.  The cap can be unscrewed to transfer the oil to a larger container.   Your right you won't get much more out after draining it while vertical so just about anything will catch/hold that small amout.  Rick

Just thinking out loud here but now I have to put the bike on a jack / stand / 2x6's / and still after that take it back down to kick stand and retrieve small bowl amount and pour into my new drain pan with storage bottle......

Was it less work to just pour it to a storage bottle the old way?

Just ride the bike up on a 2x6 and use a piece under the kick stand to, should clear the new drain pan.

But yeah don't take any info from me.....what do I know??
I do everything the hard way.

just get three 2x6 pieces of wood  about 16inches long ,run bike up on boards, one on front ,rear and sidestand and pan will fit,I have set with 45 cuts on both ends to make it easy to push bikes on them

It takes me about a minute to roll the lift under the bike and jack it up a few inches. No problem there. I always seem to make a mess pouring the used oil from an open pan into a milk bottle. Then I have to clean out the pan and funnel. This way, the pan, funnel and storage bottle are all in one. Seems to me that the little extra work of catching a bit more on the kickstand is worth eliminating most of the mess.

No Cents

I bought a rubber cat litter box made by Rubbermaid at the Dollar Store for about $4.00. The sides are shallow enough to slide under the bike while on the kick stand...but I always go ahead and put the bike on the lift...I'm getting too damn old to be bending over and working off my knees and laying on my back  :hyst:
I just use a funnel and pour it into a 5 gallon jug. I dump 5 gallons at a time at Auto Zone for re-cycle.

who?me?

I like one of the wife's 13x9 aluminum baking pans. She never asked where it was so I guess she don't miss it. Easy to pour from a corner into one of those 5 quart oil bottles.

Exactly! Run over to Kmart and buy a couple cake pans.

Yes, those work great

Krogers sells some that are really thick, and Teflon! I use them for painting trim on the house too. The Teflon allows the dried paint to peel off.

Dollar store cake pans is what I use also. Then transfer to a 5 gallon plastic jug. Just don't drag them accross rough concete or you will get a hole.

Picked one up today. Problem solved. USA made too. I like the cross-shaped drain hole to keep the drain plug from going into the pan.
