T-27. Is a hard one to find in a 3/8's version. Bought a 1/4 drive version at a auto parts store.

Yes as everyone has previously stated you are working with a #27 Torx.  Not hard to find if you see your snap on person driving around.....their torx are more expensive....but sometimes you can get a free hat..... :hyst:  Some things from SNAP ON make sense....torx would fit in that catagory.

Those links above might provide a tip or two....

Harbor Freight has a set of Torx with a T-27 in it, it's 1/4" drive.  I've used it many times and that little T-27 still looks like new.

Stanley makes a kit with the #27 and Walmart has them.

Had a similar issue when replacing the derby cover on my ultra, except i stripped one trying to take it off...
As was mentioned, you can get a #27 torx at several places... what i wanted to pass on is another good item to have in your tool bag is an impact driver... this handy item is one of the best inventions for motorcycle maintenance and repair...
it will save you a lot of frustration and time when removing stripped out screws and fastners... not a high dollar item either...

i replaced all mine with chrome allen head bolts. never any problem now

I do Craftsman tools, in my price range and the warranty is good.  I have a few Snap On tools, the T-27 Torx and my dogbones for the rockers.  The T-27 is available in 3/8" drive in Snap On.

Just get an adaptor 3/8 to 1/4. Easier than chasing down a Snap-On truck.

I usually grind a few thousands off mine to make sure they are pretty flat on the ends.  I usually give them a slight tap with a plastic mallet or an equivalent to set them in the screw.  I like them far better than other screws.

T-27 is the right size, but after stripping mine I replaced them with stainless steel button head allens. Hate torx. Future problem solved .                                                 Bandit

I got mine at Home depot. Mine is like the screw gun tip. It comes in a little strip of different sizes. It will also fit in a socket or some interchangeable tip screw drivers.

They are a 27 torx +.   Not a standard torx. That why a 27 well strip them.

L-

Sears sells SK tools that are Torx+.  I just got a tool catalog in the other day and on page 74 are the sets.  I don't think a torx+ will fit in a regular torx head though.  But a torx bit will fit both.

i found a whole new torx set at harbor freight on sale for $6 or so. it had a 27 in it and fits just right.
the old one was striped so bad i had to get out the dremel with a really small cut off wheel and make the torx into a flat head screw to get it out

I bought a few T-27's from the big Money Sucking Tool Truck
Figured since I do this stuff for a living .. somehow feels worth while buying " The Best "  :crook:

Craftsman Does make them .. Think I paid 7 bucks for it
Holds up very well

Harbor Frieght works OK for a Hobbiest .. just take precautions

I was once told a long time ago Cheap isn't Good & Good Isn't cheap

Another thing to remember 80-110 inch lbs ...
Torque it and it will not only prevent from stripping out .. it will lay perfectly flat ..
Far less chance of leaks.
A little blue locitie will keep it in place
