I heard they were doing that with a fine up a  $1000. Some locals gave us a heads up on this  new law.
A friend of mine changed his while we were there, just not worth the chance.
so how much was the fine

It's true. Florida passed the law just recently and they were enforcing it in Daytona. Seems a poor way to treat your out of state guest. I even saw some with Florida plates so I guess the word didn't get around very good. The fine is about $1000.

I read an article recently that they were going to rewrite that law.It also said that you should take the ticket to court and it would be dropped to a much lesser charge.

There has been a vertical plate law for a bit, I think the fine is $110, the new $1000 fine is actually for the guys who have the flip up plates, mostly street racer guys, and they have it so the plate will flip up under the tail section so it is not visible. Unfortunately the law was written as "improper display" so a few of the hard nose leo's took it as vertical mount could be lumped in to the $1000 fine as well. The law is back in being corrected, and I know a few of the local chiefs have advised their officers to not enforce the $1000 fine unless it is a flip up plate. I read that most of the bike week tickets were reduced to the lower fine.

I've been told recently that Minnesota has the 'no vertical plate' law also but I do not know that for sure. I'd look it up on the Google but I would just digress back to porn.

Same with Pa. Law does not say CAN BE verticle so they can write you up for it. ABATE is working to change that right now. Trying to do it thru PennDot instead making a new law.

Pretty sad that the LEO's have to ticket for vertical out of state tags.  We here in MD don't ticket Florida tagged cars with Limo grade tint on their windows when they visit.  (MD law allows up to 35%).  What next?  This type of thing seems like it's spreading.  Can't go out and have a good time anymore without fear of breaking some new and costly law !!!

Not to change the subject but... California does not require a front plate for autos but Minnesota does, but doesn't ticket CA cars. However, apehangers are allowed in MN but get ticketed in SouthDakota. Why?

I was pulled over in Memphis about two years ago. I wasn’t doing anything wrong, but LEO says my plate needed to be mount horizontally... Didn’t ticket me though, he said the law had been out a while. He just wanted to check me out. :dgust:
If it ain't broke... Fix it until it is.

I remember a few years ago at the n.y. motorcycle show at the javitz center they had a company that made an electric motor plate retractor. when you hit a button the plate went up into the fender. the only problem they had in all the wisdom their booth was right next to the ny state police booth. not much business.

also a few years before that they had a electrochromatic plate blocker (still cant find one now) that would block the plate letters at the flip of a switch
