has anyone tried the "Brisk" spark plug and is it anywhere what it says it is? They boast 3% power increase & milage increase, really or just another snake oil pitch.

How expensive are they ? If they're the same as Champion or NGK wouldn't HD fit them as stock for an extra 3% ?

bikerbill48

they are 17.99 ea, but have a very unique fire ring, better spark, even better (I think) then if you were  to side gap  a reg plug.

Brisk is a manufacturer, they make many different types of plugs.  Multi-anode types are made by a few companies.  BMW oil heads typically use a bosch 2 ground electrode plug.  Twice as many sharp edges to make spark break over less likely to fail.  I thought Wankels ran a 4 ground electrode recessed design at one time.

IMO the "big deal" with the infamous Splitfire plug was just the fact the doubled the sharp edges to allow the spark plug to work like a spark plug.  No magic... and of course they worked better than a worn old school soft metal Champion.

Who remembers Nology?  They had a Silver center electrode.  I've always viewed these fancy plugs as mostly snake oil also..  Granted I'm sure the silver plugs are capable of delivering more current with less resistance, does it really matter in a normal engine?   Maybe in a very high boost application, but seems a waste in street application.  Not to mention you need resistor plugs or wires to keep our ECM working...

I've always thought the different plugs were snake oil just like the "turbulators" in the sir stream. To me, the greatest update in plugs was the titanium plug. They last forever. As long as the plug creates a spark the engine fires and runs. Pretty simple, I thought.

I switched over to the HD SE black-topped plug because it is 20$ and not the Less expensive 6R12 THAT WORKED FINE..... :hyst:

6R12's come in a two pack and CHEAPER priced yet IF YOU Ask them, they go to the back room and get the Single packaged one...

I was told by a HD tech,  to use the Stock SE plug as it runs a little cooler than the 6R12's  and WAS needed in my 103" motor. :nix: So I DID...

ALL these plugs last for a long time in a fairly Easy Build... Now in 120 CCP like Max's? Wonder what plugs he uses.

Maybe he'll respond... Haven't seen him around lately... ???  :pop: NOW NOW, that is Not a good thing to think. :hyst:

I would think that they might give you a little if running real lean, but it's better for performance if the AFR is set correct.. I would not use them on a ion sensing system that is common to most late model EFI HDs.

What plug do you like to use Max?

I remember you  mentioning you run HIGH CCP... (220)?

Higher compression needs? closer Gapping ? and ?????...

Thanks Max,

$20 for a spark plug? What am I missing? Are they necessary for the new ignition systems, or will a regular plug work? Can you use an aftermarket plug like NGK or Autolite for the ion sensing, anti-knock super razzoo newer ignition systems?
I just bought 2 new plugs for my '01. They were $2.39 each.
$20 each? No F'ing way.

Do we need less resistance?  Why is there a resistor in our plugs now?  IIRC the Nology's had to use their special plug wire that had a built in capacitor.

I have had good luck with NGK.

The main reason for the resistor is to limit the current surge that occurs when the spark jumps the gap.. The resistance across the gap drops to some real low resistance.. This can cause a momentary current surge in the plug wire that creates a electro-magnetic field in the plug wire. This current runs in a loop between the plug, coil and chassis ground.. This wire typically makes a nice antenna which radiates the energy.. The radiation is unwanted as it is typically broad spectrum and can effect other radiated signals like radios, GPS, cell phones etc..

So did the saying "give your left nut" come from radiated Harley riders...coil is on the left.

I had always heard that with low resistance wires and a strong coil that the current would reverse after jumping the gap and flow back up the wire....I don't know.   Rick

Run a stock plug or stock champion plug or the NGK. Other than that its a waste of time. Here is the fabled E plug showing how well it really makes power. Not to mention it wanted the oddest timing curve.

You just don't know how to tune the special plugs. Lol
