Have a 2001 FLHTC-I that we are trying to tune and we are having (intermittent) issues we believe are related to possible ECM failure. Rear injector will occasionally stay on too long and over-fuel that cylinder. All wiring checks okay.

So, thinking ECM replacement but trying to decide if we should go with stock or the S&S VFI Module.

Does anyone have current experience with these (found a few posts where guys said they liked them), I haven't found anyone that has shared specific success stories. Likes / dislikes - pros / cons, that type of thing.

Also on a side note this bike has had a couple failed PCIII's and Dynojet warrantied the last one and sent us a PC-V at no charge. Wondering if there might be some correlation. Don't see many of these anymore and just wanna steer the guy in the right direction.

I have done several S&S units. They work great.

I've never used the S&S but the replacement OEM tunable one works well.  No need for any other tuner

Yes, the HD replacement MM ECM has a mini USB port and it is user adjustable.  There's software you get with it and you can tune it.  No need for any other tuning device.  I tuned a 113" MM bike that made over 130HP with one.  If I remember correctly they run right around $500 for it.

So it's the same thing then, I did not know that.  We always got them right from HD.  Been using them for at least 3 or 4 years now lol.

I'm guessing that u were not using the mm throttle body making 130hp?

Yes, use S&S Protune 2 version 3.6 software and you can get to more adjustments.  Use the S&S wide band kit and fuel will auto adjust.  I have this system on my 2000 Road King with bungs for 18mm wide band sensors.  S&S wide band kit: Instruction part number 106-0048

It seems that only HD maps work, but they can be adjusted to fit your configuration.

Based on experience and recommendations from you guys, I ordered the S&S module today.

Not exactly. Firmware is different, and maps generally available only to S&S dealers. HD unit retains same TPS and RPM increments used in the MM unit, while the S&S unit uses the increments that they like better. Probably a good idea to keep your software/firmware combinations straight if you tune both brands of VF, if you like using .box files.
