I'm guilty as well.... my Road King has never been spray washed since I bought it new in 05'  Its allways hand wiped and meticulasy polished.  takes me hours upon hours to do, but thats my thing and I love to do it.  I know the joke is that we never ride cause we are allways polishing, but I allways get plenty of riding time inbetween :)

Mist bike, spray with cleaner, hose off, dry off with towels, polish windshield with Plexus........ 1 hour.  4-6 hours if you don't wanna do house work or go shopping.........

I second that......... :teeth:

Wet down with some water, S-100 or some Simple Green. Do it twice if real dirty & rub the 2nd time with the wifes best holiday wash cloth while spraying with water. Then pre-dry with a towel from the matching holiday set and a final dry with the matching hand towel to be sure there is no water streaks, 30-40 min, 45 min tops if I take the hard bags off and do the wifes job & pick up the wet towels off of the drive. Wax once a yr. T

About 2x a year I will put the bike on the lift and spend a good 6-8 hours cleaning, waxing detailing etc.....in between I will wash and wax / spray detail and that may take an hour or so......

I work in a rock plant and ride daily so the bike gets dirt in everything. Still my once a month cleaning takes maybe an hour with a Mr. Clean Autowash. Wet, soap, hit it all with a washmit and rinse,  done. If I'm going for a ride right away I will dry it, otherwise let it drip dry. 07 SG looks the same today as when I bought it.

LMAO,  Guitarplayer has never seen his bike 100% polished. He likes to polish and loves to ride.  (the odometer don't lie)
Back to topic,  My wife spends more time helping polishing than riding, but with joint effort about 2-3 hours with wide whites.
P.S. Dave, I won't mention the time Russ caught you wiping off the bug spatter while riding either.
My wife bought Dave some micro fiber mittens to ride with so he could polish while riding.  Now that was just hilarious. :hyst:

I just spent 5 hours cleaning my new bike, and it still needed more work.  The previous owner stored outside it under a cover over the winter.   :emsad:

I might give mine a good 3 hour wash and detail once a year if I have time. Otherwise its ride it dirty. Black just shows the dirt and it will be dirty 3 miles down the road after a wash. I gave up trying to keep it nice and shiny.

lol.... Glen,  now you know that was a saftey hazard... that bug was so big it was dimming my headlight  :smiled:  I've tried just about every cleaner their is, and at the moment I'm sticking with my red bottle of Mothers chrome polish and my $16 bottle of wizards cleaner for the paint.  I sure do miss the Harley spray polish with the old formula though.

Well Honda (yes *GASP*) makes a pretty decent cleaner / polish combo spray. Cycle World magazine likes the stuff so much that when Californication's newest regulations prohibiting the stuff were imposed the CW editors were jokingly asking readers to smuggle them some in from out of state.

Our Gracie gets a pressure wash & wipe off at each oil change - rarely more than that unless I've been caught in several rain rides in a row.

Polish? aw HEYULLnaw! (wasted riding time)

I believe Barb shined her up pretty good once while we sat around Durango motel drinkin at 4 corners rally one year.

Gracie should turn over 100,000 miles on her clock today when we ride home and no dirt related breakdowns recorded so far in her 8+ year life.............. :smiled:

Wash/detail Suzy real good twice a year, maybe spot wash in between, dont get too anal about it, I found the longer you put into cleaning, the harder it'll rain the next time your out for a ride.    :duel:

My first spring clean this year took 6 hrs. After rides where alot of bugs have hit I give it the ol whores bath, other than that usually 2 or 3 good cleanings a year.

How long does it take to wash anything?

That depends. When I stir up the "Bee" and get her mad, I'm better off taking 4 to 6 hours to clean the bike. Or anything. Just make myself scarce.....

some guys can spend all day cleaning a bike they never ride, others can ride a couple thousand miles a month and spend 5 min. cleaning the windscreen

That's what I'm talkin' about.  I live in the south & cross two river bottoms going to work.  Washing is pointless untill the dead of winter.  Why bother?  It can be clean or ridden, but not on the same day.  I'll ride.

Up to a half hour on softail.  up to an hour on bagger.  However,  After spending an hour on that bagger, i did not ride it in the rain the very next day.  solution.  ... If a behavoir keeps me from riding, I quit that behavoir.  haven't washed the bagger for a few years, but I'll let a dealer do it if it's in for warranty......
