If the battery is bad, will it make the bike throw a code PO374. I tested the battery and it's at 11.27, but when I hit the start button it goes down to 7.23. Cleaned the terminals. If I put a jumper on it -it will start, but throws the code. Thanks. (O7 1200 Sportster)

That could cause codes.

Charge the battery and try it again. 12.6 is a full battery and it shouldn't go below 9V or so when cranking. Either the battery is toast or the charging system is....14V or so when around 2000 RPM.

Tried to charge the battery,But it won't it won't go up to 12 and won't start the bike without help.Goin to pickup a new battery in the morn. What is the easiest way to get the battery out? Had a bad time just trying to titen the negative post. Helped a neighbor one time with his and dropped the bolt 3 times, never did find the bolts. Some times I think they build these sporties around the battery.

Remove the negative lead from the battery first and tuck it off to the side.  This will ensure you don't ground your wrench when removing the positive lead.  Reinstall in reverse with the negative last for the same reason.  If your wrench grounds out when installing the negative lead there is no spark or bad consequences.  If you leave the negative post on and ground the wrench while working on the positive lead the arc can ignite battery gasses and cause injury from a battery explosion.

It's been a long time since I worked on my son's Sporty so my memory is fuzzy, but as i recall, access to the battery neg terminal while the battery is in the frame is difficult.
The trick when removing the battery is to unbolt the negative terminal from the motor ground stud first.  Then, disconnect the positive cable from the + battery post.  Finally,  remove the battery with the negative cable still attached to the Neg battery post.  Reverse that process when installing the new battery.

O.K. Got a new battery this morn.Started right up but when I go to throttle it-has a flat spot. Changed the crank sensor and the map sensor. But the PO374 comes up and can't clear it. where should I look next?

Did you clear the code after you installed the new battery ???

 I would check the connection at the ECM to start with. It may be an issue with the wires to the CKS also. Just shooting in the dark here though.

I see with a quick Google inquiry into the P0374 code that '07 Sportster comes up in the conversations regularly.  :nix:

GOT the PO107 cleared now it's back to PO374. Took the tank off and checked the plug and wires. Checked the plug at the ecm. Checked the wires cks. seemed ok. Not sure whats next?

Check the 5 volt pin on your ecm and see if it's 5 volts.

roadkingdresser

which one would be the 5v pin? is there a searh for the plug diagram on here?

Tell me why these motorcyles have to be so damn complicated! Why couldn't they just stayed with points and condensor? I'm getting too old for this "Potty mouth"!

OK checked the pin this morning .542 volts

Needs to be 5 volts for the sensors to work. Could be the ecm, short on the wire, bad sensor. Gonna have to disconnect sensors that use it and check.
