definitely depends on whether it's stock motor or built...like has been said, you got high comp, better not wait on hot restarts
always seem to get their azz wet?

My bike is a stock 88". It doesn't seem to matter but I usually wait. That period is when the fual pump is pressuring the system and I think it's best to wait but there's apparently no rule on it.

I think that pretty much sums it up. It sure is no inconvenience to wait 4 seconds on a motor that has no hotstart issues (unless your job is at stake - LOL).

I always wait. And once it's started I wait some more - particularly if it's a cold start. After all, we're all running air cooled engines (just like many of us did when we tooled around in Bug cages) which really, really like to get just a hint of warming before getting hit with some torque. Some habits die hard. Some engines die more quickly.

You just described my wife.  Takes the food out before the beep, every time. LOL
Why she don't just set the timer for less.....?

It's not a matter of the time it takes ,  it's the kickback, and it starts faster.

Since it doesn't matter as far as reliability (you won't hurt the system), go ahead a do whatever works for you...wait or don't wait. Just know there is no need, system function wise, to wait.
The tricks to starting and bikes with high compression and/or large builds which are not tuned properly are invaluable.

When I walk up to the motorcycle to ride, I turn the ignition switch ON.

By the time I mount and get ready, the light has long-since gone out.  I don't have to wait.

My '08 is the first FI bike I've owned and I do not wait for light to go out.  In fact, I've always wondered why people so this??  My owners manual DOES NOT say to wait.  It merely states what happens with key on.  The ECM does not have to wait and see what's going on or make adjustments... this happens at the speed of electrons... If it took 2 seconds to figure it out, it wouldn't run properly.  I also wanted to ask if any one does this on their other compusterized vehicles?
It slid 112 feet and I had no road rash

Sometimes I do and sometimes I dont, on my 04 if I didn.t wait until the speedo needle moved before starting it would work at about half speed,

Rydr2

I wait till the fuel pump stopped.  I don't even woory about the light.  :teeth:

When I think about it I wait, sometimes I don't though.  Have not noticed any real difference come to think about it.

I have a CARB, does it matter if I wait? -- also DTT ign.

My bike is an '01 FLHT. (carb)  I never paid any attention till one day I thought the speedo had gone south.  It was reading about half speed.  I traced the cause to starting the bike before the lights went out.  I could reproduce the speedo error at will by quick starting.
