How can I avoid this other than dying?

dont be a registered voter next time around..

its kinda entertaining actually, but the reimbursement deal is a joke!!

Panzer

Been there done that.....what a waste of time.
I had to show up.  They asked me and the other probable jurors how I felt toward the defendant.
I got out of it by saying.........GUILTY......HANG HIM.
The good side is, you get free parking in a parking garage if you show them your ticket.
Phily is another story......good luck.
Just say "hang'em"......it's worth a try.  :hyst:

Not sure how PA does it but MD goes by DMV records instead of voter registration.

Truck. This is a true story. I was called and went down and I was pissed because working in construction you don't show  up for work you don't get paid.  Two POS drug dealers got pulled over in a Benz  and the car was loaded with drugs. Funny how they could afford this car and neither one of them had a job.  When they asked if there was anyone who could not serve I raised my hand like allot of others did. I waited patiently and when it was my turn I went up to the front and told them in a more than nice way that the Lawyers knew they were guilty, the Judge knew they were guilty and I knew they were guilty, and the defendants knew they were guilty. Being that we all knew this, I asked them how they expected me to sit on a jury and act  impartial while loosing part of my paycheck everyday? The lawyers actually found that to be quite humorous and the judge thanked me for be honest about how I felt and told me I could go home and I did not have to return. JMO but if they want me to be truthful then by GOD that's just what there going to hear is the truth.  :wtf: are they going to do lock you up for being honest? I think not. I have not been called back since. I expect it will happen someday and if it does and it's a B/S case I'm going to tell them exactly what I think. If it's legitimate case then Ok but no B/S.

Being a self employed contractor has gotten me off the hook a few times so far. I just send them a letter explaining that I have to be there to run the jobs. Always get a letter back saying I'm excused. Like RK101 said, no work, no pay.

Got called for jury duty several times when I lived in Ks.  I was only pharmacist working at our hospital (7 days/week) usually when I got a notice.  Ks. actually had a statute that excused health care professionals if their being a juror would cause harm to public (not being able to care for patients).  Last time I was called I gave the judge the "working 7 days/week" (currently the lone ranger) story and he excused me.  Next day he calls me back to see if I was at work......I was, he said "I just wanted to make sure you were working".  Moved to Arkansas about 5 years ago and had to serve in the jury pool for six month stretch within the first year here.  They wouldn't excuse you no matter what.  Never served on a jury (knock on wood), but wife did and she said it was pretty entertaining......I believe they use DMV rolls here in Ar.

HroadhogD1

Its your Duty!! :hyst:   Does that make it all better?   I feel for ya, been there done that.  I had to only be there one day.  Then the judge told us he was going to let everybody go, and make a ruling on the matter himself.  It could have been worse

Some years ago I'd have agreed with that.....until I got arrested for something I didn't do.

Let's just say I took my motorcycle to the 3rd floor of the federal building then pushed it into the court room.  I wish I'd have had a picture of the face of the guy that swore out the warrant for my warrent when he saw the bike.  He knew he was gonna lose.

I just called the 800 number on the summons, and told them the juror number listed on the form is a bigot, hates cops, thinks judges are all gay and spend the day playing with themself under the robes, and that anyone that is willing to answer phones for them should be shot.... I think it's a safe bet your least worry now is jury duty.   :hyst:
Nah, just kidding, but you may want to black out your juror number.

Actually, at first when I saw the dealer name I thought it may be a pretty good advertising pitch the dealer was using to get people in on the showroom floor.

I wasn't referring to you Mr. Phu Cat. Sometimes they get it wrong. Let's just say that in my legal career I've seen the level of investigation the federal popsecutors use to make their cases. If there are major drug dealers, it's not unusual for the federal investigators to take four to five years to reel them in. They start at 10 years in prison for convictions of manufacturing drugs for sale, too.

As to taking your bike into federal court, that'll never happen again. I'm racking my brain as to what a motorcycle would have to do with federal court but I'll just say that anymore, it's pretty hard to get past the gate with anything more than a briefcase.

Oh great!! Now I need a tan briefcase.  :dgust:

Ok, as a retired cop, been there.  Just go in and tell the attorney
you got hooked on drugs years ago by a dealer so they know you
have an ax to grind...can't hurt.  or.......you can die.

WRONG! Pa. juror pool is made up of lists of anyone and EVERYONE who does ANY business with the state. Pay taxes, have a license for anything, or get health care/ welfare ? You are on the list!

Why would you want to get out of it? Like voting and the rest of your constitutional rights juror duty is a right we each guard for each other! If I  ever go to trial I sincerely hope and pray there are other motorcyclists judging me! NOT the lowest stupidest people who could not figure out how to not have to put a little thought and effort into making the USA the kind of place I want to live in instead of living somewhere the jurors and court are all a bunch of religious fanatics!

day two tomorrow. NY gives me 40 a day and I get to pay for my own parking   :crook:
" I can't " .... means, I don't want to.

Faast Ed

Easy!  Just go out and commit a felony. They don't like felons on the jury!  LOL

man I would love to serve on the jury in a federal case.  Guilty people interest me.   :teeth:

maybe I  missed it, but did Truck say it was a drug case?  ....could be a juicy embezzlement case or a corrupt politician case.

In Texas its easy to not get picked. All you have to do is sit quietly and peruse a copy of Guns and Ammo. When they call your name stand up and make sure your NRA belt buckle is clearly visible. Wearing a "hang 'em high" t-shirt helps too.

Its a pain in the azz for me too, but I go when I'm called. Comes with the privelege of citizenship...

I have the answer   pure and simple, works every time and I've posted it a couple times on the old HTT site. When you go into the jury selection room wait until the last minute and enter coughing your head off, and I mean coughing really hard. Do not wait even 1 second between coughs, you have to practically overlap the coughs. Sure its embarrassing but who cares? At least you appear legit. The person in charge excused me immediately much to the relief of everybody else. Keep coughing until you cross the hall to the judges chambers to look good. Then remember to cough until you get to the elevator unless you are alone continue to your bike and leave. Buy some cough drops because your throat will need some by then.

Why? Because I'm a self employed 1 man show. Thats why.

I'm am a little down on the system that requires cops to support charges they put before the D.A. even if they find out they were wrong.
I have read too many flowery police reports to not understand testilying...But why do they lie a little on almost every case...
I was arrested a year ago on terrorist threat charges...Never mind I never had the conversation...
I had to plead to playing a stereo too loud so I would not sue the city...I don't have a stereo...The system is broke...!!!
You start to understand when your lawyer says he will need $10k to take their $200 fine offer to court...
Insted of going on a toy run..I went to jail and the tweakers trashed my bagger...They cops left my front door open and all my stuff out...
I don't think I will be on any juryies any time soon...The ineffectual cops around here think I am the problem....
Ride it...Break it...Fix it...Repeat...
