Thinking of installing a reusable oil filter system on my 2011 WG. I've heard some of the hype and claims of more HP/TQ but don't believe it. Just wanting info on the best system out there and any other benefits other than being able to reuse the system and seeing the filter do its job. Thanks Mark dam snow and cold weather here in Maine just won't go away. Was already riding at this time last year. So much for global warming... :wtf:

There is no simple answer to your question.
Math will be the determining factor.
Divide the cost of disposable one over the cost of the re-useable ones and then
only You will know what is the Best and Why.

I am interested in using one of these too. I just checked the KP and FLO sites...They look like they use the same element with a different housing. I know we are running the risk of getting into an oil (ish) thread but does anyone have any info on if these are the best way to go? Nothing would wear out if it wasn't for oil contamination...Blow up? Well that is another issue.

Cost would be my third reason to purchase the reusable filters,  first would be the filter efficiency at absolute rating, second would be removal and installing the filter for servicing ease if equipped with oil cooler.  third would be cost if the first two work out.  I personally went with the K and P filter.

too many filters sold at said micron rating but at less than absolute efficiency.   :koolaid4:

I have close to 100,000 miles on my K&P filter (used the same filter on two bikes now)  and still going strong.  did some blackstone lab oil analysis when I first got it and always had low unsolubles and silica in the samples.  they told me this was an indication of proper filtering.

K&P and FLO. USA made.

I use the Pure Power filter and am very happy with it. Site states a 22 micron absolute filtraion rating. I chose the Pure Power filter over the K&P because of the absolute rating and also because I liked the canister style. The filter cleans up easily with the exception of the magnets. If you need to clean the magnets, you need to work em out of the screen and be sure they are locked back in place when you reinsert them. Clean up is Dawn Dish soap and hot water. Simple. My oil tests results have been very good, same or better than with the stock oem filter. I like the fact that I am not throwing away a filter to be disposed of in a land fill and that I do not need to try and find a filter in BFE. JMHO. YMMV.

I went with a Flo due to the fact that I couldn't take the KP filter off without a wrench, the problem I ran into was that I am running a Harley oil cooler adapter and every time I change my oil filter I had to remove my CPS. I like the filter cause of the nut.

Just make sure you get the proper oil to match the filter. What do you plan on running through that re-usable filter?

"Absolute" rating... there is no such thing! That means that not 1 micron can pass thru in the lifetime of the filter, over what it is rated... think about it people... it's all just sales hype! But what do I know after being in the filtering business for 30 years! :nix:

Beta rating is the best thing we got for rating a filter, but filter manufacturers tend to use absolute rating,.
nothing wrong with it.

A common rating for filters is the absolute rating. An absolute rating gives the size of the largest particle that will pass through the filter or screen. Essentially, this is the size of the largest opening in the filter although no standardized test method to determine its value exists. Still, absolute ratings are better for representing the effectiveness of a filter over nominal ratings

At around $20 for a filter here a K&P reusable was a no brainer for cost and convenience.

bigbearkiller

Based upon what i heard here I bought the K&P on ebay.....under $150 delivered.I hope it works as well as oem.

Notice the K&P says Quad ring can be used for a FEW changes, didn't find where it shows this Quad ring and what it costs and how hard to find one ?

Jaycee1964

I've used the K&P for about 50K miles and as far as the quad seal rating for a few changes,  I'de say quite a few.  Mine is original and going strong.  That must be a cover your a$$ rating.
If you have to stop and think about if it is right or wrong, Assume it is wrong.

K&P. USA made. FLO Chinese made.

Talked to PC Racing when I was looking at these filters. He (John) advised me the Flo filters are made in Arizona?

My PC Racing filter uses a four sided gasket. They supposedly can be used many times and I've used mine 3x with no issues. I believe you get (1) extra one with the filter (I did with the PC). Drag Specialties carries gaskets for about $2 each..

Well that is good to know.  I stand corrected and will edit my post.
