I've been riding Harleys for over 25 years now (Sporty, Shovel, Road King) and crap like what I'm about to tell ya really pisses me off. I've got this buddy who happened upon this good deal on a Honda Shadow. His first bike, so he's still learnin' takin it easy, still on his permit. He's out somewhere today and pulls up beside this clown and his old lady. The guy has a new Road King, the woman has a Sporty matching I might add tried to make them look a like. My buddy pulls up in the space beside their space. The guy asks him if he wouldn't mind moving it. Thats right he doesn't want the Honda next to his bike. My Buddy thinks he's kidding and the guy keeps it up, he ain't kidding. I dont know why, I guess he didn't want the hassle he moved it. I would loved to have been there. This DICK probably just bought those bikes now hes Johnny hardass biker. I've known too many. Go to the Harley shop and buy three of everything. Harley underwear too. I'd have called him on that one. Who didn't start on a jap bike?? Not to many I know of. If you're reading this DICK maybe you should, on second thougth I'm sure you're not, probably at homereading your GQ magazine.

It's a real good thing you were'nt with him,,,there would'ave been fire works,,,then again,,maybe it would have taught that sob a lesson...Nay..they never learn...
some people stay stupid there whole lives....but that really dont' happen very much I hope,,,cause I see lots of harley groups talk'in with the ricers all the time...

jimrookie

I hear you that is a bunch of crap, I don't care what any one rides
one of my favorite riding partners rides a Yamaha and he rides harder and smarter than many of the Harley guys

Are you talking about a parking space or on the road sharing the same lane at a stop?
Listen to the jingle the rumble and the roar.

One word... EGO.... nothing else matters to some people... I've had that happen to me more than once when I was still riding jap bikes. There always has to be one asshple somewhere. I could tell y'all one thing... it wouldn't be me doing that to someone else.... regardless what their ride was.

I still get that often as I STILL own jap bikes also.

Just before selling my Turbo Hayabusa I strolled into the local HD dealership for a voltage regulator for my Bagger. A couple of guys on HD's just totally blew me off. The service guys were sitting outside laughing their a$$e$ off as they know the other bikes I own. What meatheads these two guys were.

As posted already, two wheels is two wheels. Better yet for the trike guys also, "knees in the breeze".

Thought you said it was a "guy" on a Roadking......sounds like a pussy to me..... wasnt no man, for sure.  F him.

Yepp, I started on a Cushman, and a Yamaha...finally a Harley when I grew up.  lol

hdpegscraper

Attitudes like that is why I dont go on any HOG rides any more. I would rather ride with people that ride because they enjoy motorcycling, and not those that buy a bike to show they are better than others.

I've been riding for a while and so far nobody ever hassled me for not riding a Harley and I met up with a lot of Harley guys in the past. I got 2 Harleys now and I even wave at the guys on scooters if they wave at me. I just look at it as 2 wheel brothers on the road no matter what they ride. No, I don't wave at bicyclists.

I had to go.

That kind of attitude will eventually catch up to him in way he doesn't like.  I think he should of had a Shadow parked in his arse.

My son rides rice because of the money, better be careful who you tell to move, he was a nationaly ranked boxer a few years ago, and spent 4 years in the military.  Not sure how he would have handled that but pretty sure his bike would have stayed parked! :smiled:  jax

My first bike in the 60s was a 305cc Honda Superhawk...no msf schools ...no mc license in those days...or helmet. Before that...a Vespa...

lonegoosehonking

I started on a 71 cl100Honda. Bike got Stolen so I bought a 72 tc125 Suzuki. Was in High school didn't have alot of cash. Then I picked up a 71 Triumph 650 it was a 5 speed model. Sold it and at 18 Picked up a 1950 Panhead . Have ridden HD all these years and picked up some other bikes also. Rode dirt bikes with my kids, Competed in Trials also. HD is my favorite even though I marvel at some of the other bikes that are available. If it was my Honda I wouldn't have moved an inch. Not till the a hole touched my bike then I would have clobbered him. Lots of a holes out there but what I have found is that a person that really rides doesn't give a flip what others ride. Thats me .

My bagger stayed stock for the first season. I pulled in to get gas once, and there they were. Mr. and Mrs. Harley Davidson their very own selves, right off the cover of the book. Brand new Heritage, chrome everything, fringe and conchos everywhere, big stupid looking pipes, matching fringed jackets, the whole nine yards. I get off the bike, and the woman kinda looks down her nose with a real smug look about herself and says "Pfft... well that's nice and quiet." I just smiled, winked at her, and said "the loud one's at home." You shoulda seen here face fall. I just shook my head, pumped my gas, and chuckled halfway home.

Damn... another story. Da bride and I were in the van, and came upon 2 BMW's pulled off to the side, and the riders (a male and a female) were indeed in the gaudy matching suits. We stop, and I ask "everything okay?" The guy, smiles real big, and in this thick German/Austrian accent says (more like yells) "Yess! Ve are Fine! Just taking a break! Sanks for Stopping!!!" Lol- I about died. He sounded just like Ahnold.

We rode the the CA state HOG rally two years ago. I buddy and I were out riding just east of Fresno and ran into this guy at an intersection. He warned us we should move on as there was a whole bunch of Cushman riders coming that way. And sure enough, a few minutes later there must have been 100 of them coming down the road. It was too funny to see!

I've had quite a few Jap bike and harleys. But you're right I always get some wannabe shooting his mouth off when I'm riding the jap bikes. I had an incident one time like yours where I pulled into the next space. I got off and locked the bike up, the guy told me I couldn't park my jap crap next to his harley and to move it. I told him if he wanted it moved he'd have to move it himself, I just stood there waiting for whatever he was going to do. He called me an A-hole, got on his bike and moved it to the other side of the parking lot. I just amazes me about the mentality of some of these people.

I really don't care what someone rides, unless they are being a dick and I have met a bunch on Harleys too. But, that being said, I don't really care for people I don't know sharing my space in my lane. You don't really make it clear exactly if your bud was simply in another lane or parking sapce, in which case the guy was a dick. But I have noticed these days that a fair amount of riders will pull up next you in your lane, even passing you in your lane, esp. if they are on a ricer. I was taught that was verboten! Been riding for 42 years myself. Seen a lot of changes, not all good. Sorry to hear your pal had a bad experience. Word of advise, you said he's beginner on his permit. He might want to avoid pulling up along side another rider for a spell. Not only could the unexpected happen with him but he might not be able to recover from a move the other guy makes. Seen it happen.

Sounds like you have a bad HOG chapter! I belong to the local HOG, granted other brands are not welcome at HOG sponsered rides, but your HD is not welcome at the Gold Wing "Wing Ding" either! On the other hand, the guys I ride with, that belong to HOG, welcome friends with other brands on non-HOG rides. Many of our local members own other brands of bikes, but they don't ride them on HOG rides.

Don't knock HOG for not allowing other brands, if they did allow anyone, it would not be HOG anymore, (Harley Owners Group). It would be just some other generic motorcycle club. On the other hand if HOG don't fit you, or you don't fit HOG, no problem, ride with the group you like!

I bet your HD is not welcome with the Cushman riders mentioned earlier either! Damn Cushman riders!!
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

I'm not sure I understand-the buddy on the jap bike pulled up next to them in their lane, or he was in his own lane, and they asked him to move?

Someone pulls up next to me in my lane, and I am not cool with that no matter what they are riding. Just not cool.

the Grump

Just so its clear. It's PARKING spaces I'm talking about. Like this Jerk owns the parking lot. And for those of you that said it, sure there are dicks everywhere. I was at a party once at a guys house that owned a Honda Dealership. I got alot of razzin' that night. They are entitled to their opinion no matter how wrong they are.

Princess Butt

Sometimes, the worst part about riding a Harley is dealing with Harley people.

I have a funny story about this whole parking lot situation. There's a spot at the office I always park in, next to the dumpster here at work. It's a spot which is about 1 1/2 the size of a normal spot. Some guy here rides a Honda, and he wouldn't park in the same spot as me, although there's more than enough room.

One day I asked him about it, and he didn't want to offend me. I told him that his Nighthawk 750 has a lot more in common with my Harley than the average minivan. He got it, and he always parks next to me if he has the chance.

Some people are just jerks.  Some guy parked his bike so close to my wife's out in Milwaukee at 105th Cluster F#@$ that she couldn't stand her bike up to get it out.  He pulled in right after her and there wasn't room for a second bike.  Period.  Parking was at a premium and she paked about half a mile separate from me.  I guess he figured the little 5 foot tall blonde couldn't do anything about it.  He was right.  I guess he figured she didn't have a husband who believes the golden rule is do unto others worse then they do unto you.  He was wrong. I went and moved her bike to a safe location.  How you may ask.  I picked up d!@heads black streetglide and rolled it out into traffic. Hmmm.  Yea he locked the steering but it rolled nicely in a lockered curve until it looked like it was just parked illegally blocking traffic.  Then I pulled her bike out and away and found a safe spot elsewhere.  Before I could get back and repark his bike I saw some flashing lights.  Guess he got towed.  Too bad so sad.  Jerks deserve to be treated just the way they treat others.  BTW, if the owner of the black street glide who got their bike towed at the Bruce concert at the 105th reads this forum and would like to have a chat, just PM me.

The fact is most non-riders lump bikers together and the behavior of the rude arrogant Harley guy, the crazy ass stunt adrenilin junkie on a crotch rocket or the wannabe guy who no club will take but still wants to dress and act like a gang memeber all give us a bad name.  I'm sure your friend was just trying to avoid a confrontation.  It's a shame he didn't have some backup to tell that jerk that your friend on the Honda is more of a biker then the ass on RK and his wife.  :gob:

I encourage any bike (that will stay vertical) to be parked near my bagger.  My bike usually is so dirty that any other bike in the immediate area looks way nicer than mine and therefore makes mine less of a target for theft.  Yep, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I will admit I've never owned a jap bike, started out on a BSA, several other Beezers, a Triumph, then a Sporty, and finally my Dyna. But, I've ridden with a lot of cool people with jap bikes. I have my Harley, not because I think they're the best, but because it's just what I want. I've run into a few of these, "If it aint Harley, it aint $ht", people, and most of them haven't been riding long, they just wannabe a bad-ass biker. I get a kick when they DO get around some truely bad-ass bikers and you can see em' pissing themselves. LOL I did have some Harley jerk pull-up next to me in the same lane, he split lanes to get next to me. You could tell he hadn't been riding long, and said "Hey Bro". I told him he wasn't my "Bro". Kinda confused him.

To be honest, I'll never go back for another HD anniversary party.  I'm not a MoCo basher and in fact I'm usually the guy quietly trying to defend them.

IMHO the MoCo just sold the hell out of everything they could.  It was so crowded that you couldn't move at some of the venues.  We got trapped in during the HOG 25th concert when SurgarLand was playing and couldn't get out if we wanted to.  No big deal for us as we wanted to Kid Rock anyway, but there were people pissing on the ground because you couldn't get out.  ZZ Top appeared to be as crowded so we didn't even try to go in.  Bruce was so packed the even though we got there 3 hours early we were so far back that we couldn't see him at all over the crowd.

The hotels had jacked prices and gouged people as bad as any town I've ever seen.  So our feeling was we wasted the money on the event tickets and got gouged by the "hospitality" industry in the town.

The museum on the other hand was great.  They did a great job on it and on managing the crowd.  No tickets needed for 13 and under but that wasn't true for the museum, but rather then make one of us miss it they slipped us an extra ticket so we could see it as a family.  That was the attitude that brought the MoCo back from the AMF brink and at least a few people still have it.  Coicidentaly, this was the only venue where they did limit the number of tickets.

Also the people of Milwaukee were extremely friendly, especially the employees at the plant tours.  The only jerk I encountered was the one I described above in this thread and he had an out of state plate.  Everyone else was extremely friendly and polite.  I always say you'll never find a politer crowd then a biker crowd.

So to sum it up - We intend to return to Milwaukee on an off year and enjoy the factory and the Museum without getting ripped off because it falls on a 5 year anniversary.

We like to talk about the freedoms we get from riding. I as much as anybody enjoy the freedoms of riding on a country road or slab, where the bike and I become a single unit. I'm sure others do also regardless of what brand or model bike there sitting on. I hear others in our two wheeled ranks talk way to much about brand or model of bikes others choose to ride.

This has always made me wonder if we are that narrow minded and self absorbed that we can't see that maybe that other individual might have other things going on in his life. Do we ever stop to think that maybe the guy on the other bike just might have kids in college or a wife and kids who are sickly, and eat up most of his paycheck?    Just maybe he's doing the best he can and riding the brand or model bike that he can comfortably afford. Who knows maybe that bike he on is the only transportation he has and it means everything to him. Do we really need to belittle him to make ourselves feel better?  :wtf: is with that?

I rode foreign bikes before I ever got a Harley. I would have loved to have a brand new Harley, but living life on life's terms meant that was not going to happen at that time.
Funny thing though as I was moving up the ranks and getting better bikes through the years I never didn't enjoy the bike I was on at the moment. I guess riding has always been more important than wanting.
Those bikes put me on the same roads as the bike before and the feeling was always the same. Me the bike and my surroundings as one. The brand or model decal on the tank had very little to do with any of that.  I heard all the remarks from others when I had my foreign bikes, and I also heard remarks from others when I had my sportster, like when are you going to buy a real Harley and stop riding a girlster. That one always made me laugh as we took off from a light and my Girlster dusted there azz.  :hyst:

Now I own a 04 RK  and I love the bike, it takes me down the same roads as all my other bikes. Being truthful, I don't love it more than my 305 Honda Super Hawk that I had in the Navy. That bike was the only thing I owned at the time except for maybe a couple pair of civilian cloths. It meant the difference between walking and riding. I road that bike up and down the Fla. Keys for 2-1/2 years. I will always cherish those days regardless of what others said about my bike. Others thoughts and words meant nothing. I was having a blast and that was all that mattered. I've learned that if you’re a true Motorcyclist it's not what you ride it's that you do ride. All the other B/S that some like to throw around is just that B/S. If they truly enjoyed riding as much as they say they do they wouldn't need to judge you on what your riding. They'd already understand none of it matters as long as your knees are in the breeze.

When I had my Sportster, a guy called it a "girl's bike", I asked him if he wanted to explain to everyone how he got beat-up by a guy that rode a girl's bike?
"RIDE WITH THE WIND"

J-Carr

A friend at my local dealership rides a Sportster.  He set the 1/8 mile (Speed and ET) and 1/4 mile (Speed and ET) AHDRA Hot Street records on it...  Go ahead, call that a girl's bike.

I rode my 1200 Sporty 12 straight hours once, just gas and go stops.  Many dresser guys can't do that.  I rode my Sporty 5000 miles in a year on 2 different occasions.  Don't know many non-touring big twin guys who put that many miles on.

I got off my Sporty because I wasn't man enough for it anymore.  :hyst: I got to dang old and needed the cushy ride, backrest and storage space to haul all my meds along.  :teeth:.  So I say to my Sporty breathen, "You the man!"

As to the other makes and models, a rider's a rider with one exception.  I have no use for the adrenilin junkies on any brand of crotch rocket (Buell, Jap or German) who using thte street as a stunt track.  Ride it fast, ok.  Ride it on one wheel or at 150 mph, you're gonna get someone killed.  Go find some track or private lot to do that stupidity in.  Heck, I'll even pay to watch.

I don't think I would have moved. I might have put my boot on his saddlebag and tried to push him over though. It's hard to chase someone with your bike on the ground. LOL.  :hyst:

As the old saying goes, it's not what you ride, it's who you ride with. And that tour pack monkey thing is some funny sh#*, I can't quit laffin. :hyst:

Funny thing after my sporty whooped up on his softail he never called it a girlster ever again. He learned a lesson that day. Just because a bike is loud doesn't make it fast, it only makes it loud.  :hyst:  The RK Barka lounger suites me just fine now and it's my last bike, I have know desire to own any other bike, but if you own a different brand or model  and you like it, well the only thing I can say is Cool.  Ride safe and enjoy. Maybe we'll meet on the road someday and share a few laughs and some frosty ones.

Attitudes like that is why I dont go on any HOG rides any more. I would rather ride with people that ride because they enjoy motorcycling, and not those that buy a bike to show they are better than others.

LOL - You don't ride with HOG members because of their attitude?

I was in HOG for about ten years. I used to be an officer and all of that. Some have bad attitudes but those generally don't stay long. For the most part, they are like anyone else. Some do drink a bit too much on the rides, however, so I eventually had to go elsewhere.

Hey Panzer,

I grew old, not up.   :hyst: I'm only 41.  But I had a heart attack at 35 and herniated some disks in my back.  I've gotten myself straightened out health wise but I just never could get my back to co-opporate on the Sporty after that.    For Tireater: Careful...That can change! When I had my heart attack I was a 350 pound scary guy too!  Then I had gastric bypass weight loss surgery.  Now I weigh 200 pounds and I'm not scary.  I used to just look at a jerk crooked and they'd go away.  Now I look and they look bak like "what you gonna do old man".  Oh well.  I have a fix for that too.  Whenver possible I ride with my bud who was a bouncer at Hammerjack's in Baltimore.  Kinda like carrying a loaded gun in full view but legal!  :teeth:

I bought a dresser for long distances and fell in love.  Found I wasn't treating the sporty right and it was a shame to keep it locked up in the garage so I sold it so it could be appreciated.  by going down to one bike I was able to upgrade and two years ago as a reward for getting my act together health wise my wife suggested I go buy the Screamin' Eagle.  Plus my lawyer firend assured me that the bike was cheaper then a girlfriend for mid-life crisis!

The '07s a great ride.  The new rubber mount frame really improved the look, comfort and handling on the Sporty's.  I'm friends with my local dealer and helping out at various functions I get to ride most of the models.  I really think alot of the Sporty these days.  Mine was a '94 and although I loved that bike I just felt "at home" when I got my first dresser.  I also ride with a guy who's got a Kawasaki Nomad and a guy with a V-Star.  Also nice bikes.

The funny part about the "Sportster is a girls bike thing" is that it goes both ways. I love it when a guy on a Sportster (or a Dyna or a Softail) makes some snide comment about my "old man's bike" while sitting at a stop light, and then the light goes green and they get downright shamed. Lol- Thanks HTT, for makin' it all possible.

I remember when the Sportster first came out. It was the successor to the Models K, KK and KHK (the last of the flathead solo bikes). It was certainly not thought of as a woman's bike at that time. It wa just about the fastest thing around back then.

The connection of Sportsters and wonen came about later on when women began riding more and wanted a lighter Harley. I think the dealers pushed that idea to sell more bikes. Lots of males buy Sportsters though, partly due to the price.

tireater

If you have a Sporty... get a little thicker skin...I asked another rider how it was going at a mountain top bar...
He said 'OK ...even if you think I have a girls bike"...Of course I ask what the hell he is talking about...
Months before He said I said Sportys were for girls...There were 10 women who showed up all gay and on Sportys that day...
I didn't even know the guy rides a Sporty and he is mad at me months later...Just like a girl... :potstir:

Dan I used to bust on my friends about riding the road sofas when I had my Softail, but it was just banter among friends.
When I got my RK they busted on me unmercifully.  :hyst:  It was fun and harmless and know one got heated over it. If it wasn't that it would be something else. They even busted on my front fender extension, They told me to get that pos off my fender. They told me to look on the inside of it when I took it off to see if there was a Budwiser label on it. LOL They broke my nads so bad it was the first thing I changed. LOL Now I'm busting on one of them about the shield he put under the seat to remove some of the heat off the rear cylinder on his 08 ultra. I tell him his nad sack hangs to low. LOL  It's never ending, and if we didn't bust on each other we'd know something was seriously wrong.
As for the smart azzes, you have to admit it is nice to put them in there place with not a word said.  :teeth:

RK,
I was worse. I always told all my friends "If you see somethin' that looks like me on one of them things, shoot the sonuvabitch, on accounta it's some alien pod that done snatched my body." Now, I can't imagine living without all my "old man" comforts. And yeah, they give me a pretty good ration for it. Lol- I can take it. I earned it.

As I mentioned, I moved from a Sporty to a Full Dresser.  And I got my ration of chit about it being an old man's bike.  Still do from a few.  However, most guys only give it to me once.  Not because I can't take it.  Hell, I call it a geezer glide myself.  No, the reason they only say things to me once is my wife.  God bless her.  She's A: Not Shy.  B: Not a prude C: A bitch on wheels when required.  When she hears someone giving me the "old man bike" BS she'll just saunter over and explain to them that it's much easier for her to get freaky with me on the road sofa then her Dyna or any other small bikes.  Of course, if said tormentor is foolish enough to call her our on it, she's been known to go into detail.  That usually either leaves them speechless, or has them shall we say, prying for further info.  Either way, they're off my case and jealous as hell at me.
