Wondering if anyone has any experience with Vulcan Engineering rocker arm supports compared to Delkrons. TIA Gene

Don D

What valve gear do you run that makes these parts necessary?

madjack

Don, This is stock support, and rockers, on top of mike roland forged heads. Got a new ,top end noise. changed out lifters yesterday, noise still there. Thinking it might be a bushing issue on a rocker. If I replace anything in there, just looking ahead to parts for the next build. Gene

Don D

If I knew more about those heads I could comment but I don't know the spring packs, spring installed height or valve stem protrusion they use.
The supports Bobby Wood sells would be the ones to get if in fact there is an issue (I doubt the plates are the culprit). These have the side benefit of improving the geometry.
The noise by the fact that is was not there and now appears is likely a part failure. Take the parts off inspect and measure for answers.

Thanks Don, Thats the plan, after work, thanks for the heads up on the woods support.

The Vulcan piece is cnc machined, and is roughly the same price as the forged SE piece. The forged piece will be stronger. This would be for stock replacement. If you need to correct the geometry, and/or price isn't a concern, the Wood piece is awfully nice (as Don says).
Never follow the Hippo into the water.

Thanks Dan, thats the info I was looking for. With a 117 in the future, thought I'd upgrade to parts I could use then ( next fall). I'll know more about my parts list later tonite. Thinking ahead, about some offset, to correct geometry, might not be compatible with what I run rite now.

Don D

It will work even on a stocker, just .030 moved toward the middle away from the valve stem. This part would actually help plan for growth. That being said the stocker is probably fine for now unless the valve spring pressures are very high (>185#) then when you go up later the geometry can be addressed less generically as a whole solution depending on the lift of the cam and base circle changes.

Thanks Don, Gottcha! Gonna call Mike and get all the info on exactly what I don't know about these heads.

Well opened the top end last night. No issues, reassembled, runs the same,Under load as 2400rpm, with a steady throttle position, it has a floating kind of knock. With 95k, and a 95 build early on, might have to concider perhaps a rod bearing, at the piston,is the culprit. Gene

Hreagle

Madjack, with it running and making the knock, pull off one plug wire at a time and see if it stops or changes considerably. Generally this will indicate looseness in a Rod bearing, wrist pin, or excessive piston slop.

I ordered the off set plate from delkron and they informed me the rocker arm say the exhaust would be moved .030 toward the spring/valve and the same for the intake this seems different than what you said about the woods plate. I bought the plate thinking it may subdue my rocker noise , my stem protrusion is around  2.050-2.060 quite frankly I'm totally lost and confused on this contact area thing perhaps you could turn a light on for me I'm sure others are lost like me.
